Red Wave, White Mountain: Travel Inspired Art

***Limited edition art prints in various sizes are available on my Minted store.

I arrived at a remote fishing village in Japan on a gray and cloudy day. Around a bend in the road leading there, I saw these bright red fishing nets drying on the shore after the day’s trip out to sea. I stood there for a while, taking in the new details as the wind moved the stuck gray around. Soon the sun came out and gave the scene a nice warm glow, somehow tying the shores together.

Ine is a rather remote fishing village in the north of Kyoto Prefecture. It is famous for its funaya or “boat houses”. To this day, fishing is the main occupation of the residents.
